Jason's playing here is phenomenal. Kind of heartbreaking how into it they all are but with Jason the only one knowing it's the last time. As much as they hazed him he always kept them on their toes musically. Such a tight unit firing on all cylinders, they never sounded like this again.

And in leaving, he caused a butterfly effect that ultimately forced them to reflect on what they had become, make amends, and just be better. Jason leaving the band damn near destroyed it, but from the ashes of old Metallica, a new, stronger, wiser, and (arguably) more mature Metallica emerged. He really did save the band twice.

Kirk’s guitar is slightly off and I can’t not hear it. I’ll just focus on how Jason carried the band. 😊

Jason is better than Robert in every single way possible, but those guys, that ruined the "metal" part of it all, began to talk in cameras about feelings, with a psychologist that was thinking he was a member of the band, and stupid stuff like that, like indirectly blaming the dude for the death of Cliff by being mean. That's why Megadeth is better and wil always be, you don't see Dave joking with stupid kid toys in television networks or walking around in famous brands and that being the point and not the music. That is why Black Sabbath is the best, 'cause we have no ideia of what Geezer or Ward are doing, and we shouldn't have. They are metal musicians and not b...fucking socialites.

For me, Jason represented the heart and soul of Metallica that was created in the very beginning. When Jason took over for Cliff, he came to the band as a representation of all fans at that time hugging the band, filling a spot, and being a part of metallica as a fun. Supporting and caring, and being part of this band we all loved. That position in the band continued throughout the years and the treatment of Jason was a metaphor for how Metallica largely treated their fans as well. Jasons departure was timely as many of us fans left the band when he did. We still gave attention, but it was never the same and hadnt been for a while. Much respect and love to Rob, he's a good dude and brought a lot to the band, but Jason was our membership and place in the band.

I've always been a fan of Jason and missed his stage presence. I really liked his bass riffs on Fade to Black during VH1 in his very last performance with the band. He does his own fills with the song, especially in the intro, where I kind of liked the sound of it. I have never heard anybody play like that ever again. I think Rob plays closer to the original, but there is some twist that Jason did for the song that I find truly special.

5:16 A huge reason Lars' double bass sounds so ferocious is because of the way he and Jason lock in during that part. You can tell the band had really gelled at that point in their career. Too bad Jason left.

Rob is a good dude and great bass player but he just feels like a session musician within the band. Jason was 💯 part of Metallica

I still think Jason should be Metallicas bassist. Rob is incredible but Jason was a better fit.

Jason: appeared distant throughout most of this performance, then proceeds to turn towards Lars on cue to wave "goodbye".

To be honest, even though im a massive, and I mean MASSIVE cliff burton fan, Jason was 100% the soul of Metallica. He was a live show juggernaught, he perfectly understoood how to use bass to compliment james and kirk's guitar, and decided to leave the band that he was a massive fan of.
